Wiping the slate clean
We were approached by the Prime Minister’s office and the management of Mount Herzl in Jerusalem to redesign the signage system as part of a major redesign of the compound.
Previously, there was a significant lack of standardization. Numerous headstones from various eras employed different fonts and layouts. Furthermore, not only were there no clear guidelines for any signage, there was a request for additional signs.

Laying out the foundations
The subsequent stage involved designing a versatile grid system for each format. The challenge lay in considering various factors, including legibility and technical requirements.
Additionally, working in a trilingual environment presented its own challenges. Each language has a distinct origin that has shaped its unique characteristics. We ensured consistency throughout.

Fonts things first
We commenced the foundation work by selecting a font. A robust trilingual font was necessary to accommodate every need. From big titles to fine print. We opted for “Hadassa”, a font designed by Henri Friedlander and revived by Fontef Type Foundry, with Arabic addition designed by Daniel Grumer.
The font possesses elegant characteristics. Although it was designed only half a century ago, it exudes a sense of timelessness rooted in our region’s history. It conveys modesty and respect.
